What you will work through.

01

Start with the place you actually report

Joint Base San Antonio spans multiple installations and work locations. Start with the exact reporting location, the gate or work center that matters, duty hours, and the household's other recurring destinations.

02

90 days out: turn orders into a workable plan

Confirm report date, sponsorship and installation requirements, household size, pets, vehicles, childcare or school timing, medical continuity, and whether a house-hunting trip is possible. Keep orders and sensitive records in official channels.

03

60 days out: build the move budget

BAH is an input to the household budget, not a recommended purchase price. Include taxes, insurance, HOA dues, utilities, commuting, maintenance, deposits, moving, and reserves.

04

30 days out: narrow the housing decision

Compare buying, renting, or temporary housing based on timeline, financing, expected time in the area, cash reserves, household needs, and uncertainty. Test actual commutes when practical.

05

Arrival week: establish the essentials first

Confirm installation access, utilities, internet, safety systems, key routes, vehicle needs, childcare or school steps, and the first maintenance tasks. Aim for a functional first week, not a perfectly finished house.
