2026–2027 PCS to Lackland AFB: test the gate, not just the mileage.

Planning a 2026 or 2027 PCS to Lackland AFB? Start with your worksite, likely gate and report time. West and southwest San Antonio have several major road approaches, and the practical commute can change with gate availability and time of day.

This guide keeps the housing search tied to objective logistics and official JBSA information.

Updated October 4, 2026 for 2026–2027 PCS planning.

First five decisions

Build the Lackland PCS plan in sequence.

  1. Confirm the Lackland worksite. Main base and nearby mission locations can change the useful route.
  2. Check current gate operations. Valley Hi, Luke East, McMullen and other gates do not all operate on identical schedules.
  3. Test real routes. Compare US-90, Loop 410, Highway 151, Loop 1604 and local approaches where they are relevant to the property.
  4. Use official housing and BAH sources.
  5. Then compare properties. Evaluate housing type, taxes, HOA structure, condition, route redundancy and recurring household destinations.

Gate reality

Lackland has several access points with different schedules.

JBSA currently lists 24/7 access at some Lackland gates while others have limited weekday hours. Recheck the official schedule before treating any one gate as your normal commute.

West-side context

Road access can be more useful than a radius.

Housing west and southwest of central San Antonio spans different development eras and road networks. For a Lackland search, compare the route to the likely gate, backup routes, property condition, taxes, HOA structure and the other places your household will repeatedly travel.

Far West San Antonio can also enter the search depending on your route tolerance and other destinations.

Local help

Turn the assignment into a focused home search.

I’m a former U.S. Air Force Combat Controller (CCT), Special Warfare veteran, and San Antonio real estate agent. As a Military Relocation Advisor, I use the same installation-first approach here: once the worksite, report date, commute tolerance, budget and housing criteria are clear, the search gets much more useful.
